Education Spotlight – Winter 2020
Profiles on local schools
This past September, Calgary Christian School launched a new Bible curriculum at our K-6 campus. We are excited to share that our youngest learners, when they have been in school for three years (K-2) at CCS, will have gone through virtually all of the narrative passages of the Bible. Importantly, at developmentally appropriate levels, allowing their faith to take root and flourish.
Grade One teacher, Mrs. Bowen, shared “I really appreciate the way this program moves through the Bible in a way that makes sense for children. It has a good balance of instruction and practical application. Of course, we supplement it with interactive and play-based learning. It’s a good complement to our efforts to incorporate every lesson (as much as we can!) into God’s story.” The Bible is the foundation of all programming at CCS, where we teach the Alberta curriculum through a Christian Worldview. For more information about our Elementary Bible program, please visit: www.calgarychristianschool.com/parents/christian-elementary/bible-program.
CCS is a K-12 school celebrating over 55 years of service, and is currently accepting applications for the 2020-21 school year. To receive admissions info, visit calgarychristianschool.com.
Hope Christian School (HCS) is a Grade 1 through Grade 12 Christian school. The school is committed to meeting both the academic and spiritual needs of its students. Our school office is located in Champion, Alberta, and we offer a full Christian education online through our Hope Online, as well as a traditional home education program through Hope at Home.
Hope Christian School is owned and operated by the Evangelical Free Church of Champion, Alberta, but it is nondenominational in operation. We believe that when the church, the school, and the family are teaching the same life principles, our children are secure and free to do their best academically.
Please see our Mission, Vision and Beliefs Statements (available online) to get a more in depth understanding of what our educational philosophy is. While we welcome students with other belief systems, it must be understood that the Biblical perspective is followed in all of our materials and classes. Through these, students will be encouraged to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ, which to us, is the only hope of experiencing a life of peace in this world and the next. Our teachers all have an evangelical Christian background and this Biblical perspective will thus be reinforced through teaching of course materials and class discussions. In agreeing to register with us you understand, acknowledge and accept that your children or yourself will be taught from this perspective.

The Value of Christian Education
If your child could be taught faith in their home, at church and in their school – why would you not give that to them?
A Christian education helps parents prepare their children for the future by letting them experience the integration of faith into all aspects of life and learning. In our world today, parents can’t operate alone; at Menno Simons Christian Schoo,l we believe that it takes a village to raise a child. Being in a community where Christ is the focus and having Christian teachers be a voice to speak truth into a child’s life will help them establish life-long values and ethics.
Christian education helps children build a Biblical world view which will be the lens through which all other ideas, philosophies, ideologies and teaching will be viewed.
Menno Simons Christian School offers Grade K through 9 academic programs with small class sizes in a safe and caring environment. We give students an Education 4 Life with a focus on peacemaking and social justice. Menno Simons Christian School also believes that education should be available and affordable to all families.
Menno Simons Christian School is currently accepting applications for the 2020 school year.

Roots – Supporting & Assisting Christian Home Educators for 25 years. Started in 1994 by Christian home educators for traditional Christian home educators, Roots strives to enable and support parents who have the responsibility of educating their children for God’s glory and according to their children’s unique strengths and needs. In a reassuring environment, children have the flexibility to pursue many opportunities while being equipped to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Home education incorporates character development, time management, skill development, relationships, and academics. Recognizing this broader scope liberates parents to set meaningful goals that meet their child’s specific needs. Education is important, but true education comes within a broader context. All Roots facilitators have home educated their own children or were home educated themselves, giving them the ability to relate to everyday home education realities.
Parents are in control of their child’s education and Roots staff will provide you support. Within the Roots community, you will also be surrounded by other Roots home education parents. Parental expertise is invaluable. Accepting Christian families from the Edmonton, Calgary and surrounding areas into the Roots society enables the Roots program to maintain its mandate to support and encourage Christian parents as they home educate their children “in the way [they] should go”.
